Cookies & browser storage
The browser data PaperRift uses.
PaperRift currently uses first-party technologies for access, recovery, story continuity, deletion safety, and limited product analytics—not third-party advertising cookies.
Proposed effective: September 1, 2026 · Last updated: August 31, 2026
1. Current technologies
- Sealed access-session cookie: authenticates the current guest or linked web session for up to 6 days.
- Sealed recovery-binding cookie: restores the same scoped guest identity for up to 30 days.
- Verified attribution cookie: carries a server-verified campaign and title-entry reference for up to 5 minutes.
- Story local storage: saves browser-side story continuity, pending operations, and the current safe runtime projection until you remove it, account deletion completes, or product cleanup removes it.
- Analytics local storage: holds a pseudonymous browser analytics identifier and a bounded queue of allowed product events until removal or cleanup.
- Deletion-transaction local storage: safely retries or completes an account-deletion transaction until deletion completes or the local transaction is cleared.
Exact cookie names may change without changing their purpose. Session and recovery cookies are Secure, HTTP-only, same-site restricted, and scoped to PaperRift. The analytics outbox must not contain private story text.
2. Why they are used
Session, recovery, story-state, deletion, security, and entitlement technologies provide requested features, keep requests scoped to the correct guest or account, restore continuity, prevent fraud, and complete deletion safely. The limited analytics outbox measures story entry, progression, handoff, purchase state, and technical reliability without raw Living input, private transcripts, passwords, full receipts, or payment-card data.
3. Advertising
PaperRift does not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site behavioral advertising cookies. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If we introduce non-essential technology, we will update this notice and request consent where required before activating it.
4. Your controls
You can clear cookies and site data through your browser. Blocking or clearing necessary cookies can sign you out, prevent guest recovery, or remove unsynchronized story progress. Account deletion clears PaperRift-owned local story and analytics data after server-side deletion completes.
