Billing, cancellation & refunds
Store purchases and Story Credits.
This policy applies to PaperRift Story Credit packs and Living Membership subscriptions.
Proposed effective: September 1, 2026 · Last updated: August 31, 2026
1. Where purchases are made
Initial purchases are offered only through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. PaperRift does not accept web checkout in the initial release and does not receive your full payment-card number. The store checkout screen is authoritative for price, currency, taxes, billing period, offer or trial, renewal terms, and product identifier shown before confirmation.
2. Subscriptions
Living Membership may be offered on monthly or annual auto-renewing terms. It renews through the applicable store unless you cancel before the store’s renewal deadline. Cancel through your Apple or Google subscription settings. Uninstalling PaperRift, deleting an account, or not using PaperRift does not cancel the subscription.
After cancellation, access ordinarily continues through the paid period shown by the store unless refunded or revoked. Annual membership may grant Story Credits monthly rather than all at once; checkout must disclose the grant schedule.
3. Story Credits
Story Credits are consumed only when an eligible Living action commits a valid response. A safety refusal or a generation attempt that fails before commit costs zero credits. Purchased and subscription-granted launch Story Credits do not expire. Promotional, trial, or support credits may expire only if disclosed when granted.
Story Credits are not money or stored value, have no cash value, and cannot be sold, transferred, exchanged, or redeemed outside PaperRift.
4. Refund requests
Apple and Google administer store refund requests, subject to their rules and mandatory law. Use Apple’s Report a Problem flow or Google Play’s refund-request flow. Contact hello@paperrift.com for a technical-delivery problem, duplicate entitlement, or help identifying the relevant store transaction. Do not email a full receipt, payment-card number, password, or store credential.
Except where store rules or law provide otherwise, cancellation does not retroactively refund a completed billing period merely because PaperRift was unused.
5. Failed delivery and duplicate charges
If a verified purchase did not grant the disclosed entitlement, we will use reasonable efforts to restore or reconcile it. If we cannot deliver within a reasonable time, we will assist with or issue an appropriate refund through the store process where available. Report a suspected duplicate charge to hello@paperrift.com and the applicable store.
6. Refunds, revocations, and chargebacks
When Apple or Google reports a refund, revocation, chargeback, fraud event, or unauthorized purchase, PaperRift may reverse unused Story Credits and affected future membership grants tied to that transaction. We do not drive a Story Credit balance below zero solely because credits from the refunded transaction were already used. Fraudulent or abusive purchase activity may result in an account restriction.
7. Price or benefit changes
The store controls billing notices and may require your consent to a price change. We will provide any additional notice required by law before a material adverse change affects a future renewal. Changes do not reduce credits already validly purchased and granted.
8. Consumer rights and contact
Nothing in this Policy limits a mandatory refund, cancellation, cooling-off, warranty, or other consumer right under applicable law.
